WHO WE ARE
“Sciences and Citizenship”

The Laboratorio di Scienze della Cittadinanza – LSC (Laboratory of Citizenship Sciences) is an association of researchers, trainers, knowledge managers and research project designers.

The association was founded in June 1993.

The original group, composed of people who graduated mostly from the universities of Rome, trained in advanced studies of political sociology and general sociology at the School of Sociology and Human Sciences chaired by Giancarlo Quaranta.

The LSC spent three years working on research and training projects together with Cerfe, an association working at international level, with projects in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Since the mid 1990s the LSC has worked in Italy and internationally on projects connected to the need to bridge the gap between knowledge and policy-planning, on the one hand, and the ordinary citizen’s responsibility and public policies, on the other.

In this context, the LSC is today dealing with two great challenges that contemporary societies face as a whole:

– Promoting the adaptation of politics to the new context of the knowledge society.

– Promoting progress in scientific and technological research.

Bringing together knowledge and politics, qualifying the presence of social research in the spheres of scientific and technological research, and aiming at on integrated scientific design as a theoretical and practical synthesis of a new citizenship science are the three main aspects of the LSC’s mission.
