LSC participated in the second CARISMAND Citizen Summit held in Malta on 16 July 2016. Citizen Summits are events aimed at dealing with topics related to different types of disasters and focused on specific aspects affecting culturally informed disaster risk perceptions. After a short presentation of the CARISMAND project, participants were asked to answer questions about disaster simulation exercises, personal emergency plans, and the use of social media in disaster management. The audience provided their answers through the use of individual key pads, thus allowing a direct access to the audience’s reactions. The disaster exercise was based on an earthquake simulation inspired to a similar activities developed in 2015 as part of an Italo-Maltese project. The afternoon group discussions focused on two main topics, i.e., participants’ risk perceptions and intended behaviours in different disaster phases and types of disasters and the cultural aspects which may affect disaster preparedness, relief and recovery.
