Held in Turin from the 28th June to the 1st July 2010, the training workshop of SjCOOP (Science journalism COOPeration) project - promoted by the World Federation of Science Journalists- hosted many relevant speakers, such as Alfonso Alfonsi, the coordinator of the SET-DEV (Science, Ethics and Technological Responsibility in Developing and Emerging Countries) project, who spoke about the projects main aspects, along with its expected impact on African countries. Alfonsi focused his speach on SET-DEV project as a multilateral dialogue for the socialisation of scientific and technological research.
Within the 4-day training workshop organized by the World Federation of Science Journalists, in the framework of the SjCOOP project, a special session was held on the 30th June 2010- 3rd day of training, hosting relevant speakers both from science and policy fields.
The workshop has been conceived to train the 15 mentors of the SjCOOP project updating them on the relevant issues currently at stake in Africa and Arab States, in order to supervise in a second stage 60 journalists across Africa and the Arab world for the next two years.
The discussion on 30th June was aimed at identifying science-related topics and issues that will be or could be up for some decisions by governing instances, donors, institutions within the next two years in Africa and in the Arab World. The goal is to have journalists trained in covering those issues in depth and with quality articles, in the hope to contribute to raise the debate in those regions.
