After the completion of the research activities, in the framework of the SS-ERC project the workpackage “Experimentation” started up. It includes four experimentations, respectively in Italy (on scientific practices, carried out by the Tor Vergata University and Laboratorio di scienze della cittadinanza), Spain (on scientific mediation, made by the La Rioja University of Logroño), Slovenia (on scientific communication, carried out by the Primorska University) and Denmark (on evaluation, promoted by the Danish Center for Studies in Research and Research Policy of the University of Aarhus).
The experimentation pursues two main objectives:
- generating new knowledge on socialisation dynamics, refining and deepening the outputs of the research;
- providing information on practicability conditions of actions in support of research socialisation, in a problem solving perspective.
In the period September-December 2007, the experimentation design has been conducted. To this end, a series of meetings have been organised in Logroño, Koper and Brussels between the experimentation staffs and Luciano d’Andrea, project scientific director, and Gian Luca Porinelli, as representative of the University Tor Vergata, project co-ordinator.
On December 5 2007, a delegation of the SS-ERC Project, made up, in addition to d’Andrea and Porinelli, also of Stefano Ciccone (responsible for the project on behalf of the Tor Vergata University) and Fabio Feudo (Laboratorio di scienze della cittadinanza) met Maria Louisa Anastopoulou, project officer at the DG Research, in charge of following the SS-ERC project. The meeting gave the opportunity to have an exchange on the activities carried out and on the future steps of the SS-ERC project. Special attention was devoted to the dissemination of the research outputs among policy makers and other stakeholders.
The phase of experimentation design ended in December, with the draft of an overall experimentation plan. In January, the phase of implementation was activated. It includes, for each experimental activity, a research component and some pilot-projects, which will lead to the drafting of a Handbook on Science and Technology socialisation, the completion of which is expected for March 2009.
Finally, on February 11 and 12 2008, the Third Steering Meeting was held in Koper, hosted by the Primorska University. The meeting gave the opportunity to have an exchange on the experimentation and on a new project dissemination strategy.
