| STARBIOS2 – STRUCTURAL TRANSFORMATION TO ATTAIN RESPONSIBLE BIOSCIENCES |
Laboratorio di Scienze della Cittadinanza (LSC) is partner of the STARBIOS2 (Structural Transformation to Attain Responsible BIOSciences) project, coordinated by the University of Rome - Tor Vergata and funded by the European Union (G.A. 709,517) under Horizon 2020.
The project started in May 2016 and will last 4 years. Its aim is supporting the implementation of action plans to promote a "structural change" favouring the adoption of the Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) approach in 9 research institutions in the field of biosciences, including 6 European organisations (from Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, Poland, Slovenia, United Kingdom) and 3 non-European organisations (from USA, Brazil and South Africa). The project is intended to contribute in strengthening the strategy activated by the European Union geared to place RRI at the core of the current Horizon 2020 framework programme. The project therefore is geared to promote a greater connection between science and society and a more intense involvement of stakeholders at all levels of the research and innovation process. The project specifically takes into account 5 "keys" of RRI:
- Involving more widely the society in research and innovation processes;
- Increasing the access to scientific results;
- Ensuring gender equality in both the research process and contents;
- Taking into consideration the ethical dimension;
- Promoting science education, both formal and informal.
By promoting structural changes in these areas, the project also aims to develop a learning process on the implementation of RRI (in particular on resistances to change, facilitating factors, strategic options and best tools) as well as to develop an RRI sustainable model for biosciences.
LSC is responsible for WP8, which concerns the technical assistance to the institutions involved in the implementation of the 9 action plans.
